My Fascinations

About Me
After 25 years in Taiwan and a career that’s meandered through R&D labs, PR war rooms, and classrooms (with pit stops in food festivals and design expos), I thought it was high time to stop keeping the good stuff to myself.
Hi, I’m Richard—the chap behind the keyboard. Born in the UK, I survived English boarding school, studied in Scotland, lived briefly in China, and dived into Ergonomics and Human-Computer Interaction in London before Taiwan seduced me with its food, linguistic quirks, and general refusal to be boring. I never left.
Over the years, I’ve worked in education, tech development, events, marketing, and media—always chasing stories, good design, better food, and the occasional glass of giggles. Along the way, I’ve come to believe that language isn’t just how we communicate, it’s how we taste, remember, argue, flirt, and make sense of a messy world. Food’s not far off, frankly.
Now semi-retired (and semi-domesticated), I finally have time to dig into the things that fascinate me: how flavour works, why certain words hit harder than others, what makes a well-designed object sing, and why you really can judge a whisky by its nose.
This site is where it all comes together. Pour yourself something nice, and have a wander.
